Botswana is an all-year round destination and is generally semi-arid with two main seasons:
SUMMER (Rainy or Green Season) begins in November and ends in March. It can bring very high daytime temperatures and localised showers. The bush becomes green and lush, prompting the herds to give birth to their young while food is abundant.
WINTER (Dry or High Season) begins in May and ends in August. Winter days are warm and sunny with cool nights and early mornings. The landscape dries out and vegetation dies back making it easier to spot game and the animals congregate near rivers and waterholes.
THE TRANSITIONAL PERIODS – April, September & October – are mostly dry, with warmer nights than in the winter months and cooler daytime temperatures than in summer.

Botswana’s main airport is Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE) just north of the capital, Gaborone.
Most major airlines offer connecting flights from Europe to Botswana via Johannesburg, South Africa (JNB). Ethiopian Airlines also fly from Europe via Addis Ababa (ADD) to Gaborone.
Private Air Charters are available from Lanseria International Airport (40mins drive from JNB) to the Reserve. The Limpopo-Lipadi Airstrip (FBLL) is suitable for light aircraft and we have a helicopter pad at the Lodge.

Most European & Commonwealth citizens do not require a visa for entry into Botswana, however, it is best to check with your local embassy or High Commission as these requirements are subject to change. botswanatourism.co.bw/travel-info/countries-requiring-visas.
Your passport must have a minimum of 6 months validity and at least 2 consecutive blank pages (allow at least 3 blank pages if travelling back into South Africa afterwards).

The water is safe to drink at the property and chilled drinking water is available at all meals, on game drives, at the bar and in the guest rooms.
The Bar is stocked with locally available sodas, beers, spirits, and South African wines - and these are included in your package stay. If you require any imported wines or premium liquors, we are happy to place an order with our supplier and let you know the cost in advance.
Chanda, our Lodge Manager is in charge of provisioning and preparing all the meals at Lipadi Hills. Her menu features international and traditional Botswana dishes using fresh local produce. As a mother of five, she is used to providing good hearty food for her family and the lodge meals are served ‘family-style’. We will do our very best to accommodate Special Dietary Requirements but some ingredients are unavailable in the region and we cannot guarantee that locally sourced items will be allergen-free.

High-speed internet is available via our STARLINK satellite system which provides reliable WIFI in the Guest rooms and Main lodge including the gym and pool area.
Mobile coverage is normally provided at the lodge by the main cellular networks in Botswana and by Vodacom South Africa. Coverage is limited on game drive within the Limpopo-Lipadi Reserve itself. Please check with your cellular provider regarding Roaming Partners and charges.
Lipadi Hills is entirely off-grid, but its self-sufficiency doesn’t mean sacrificing home comforts. The solar array, battery bank and back-up generator provide 24 hour power at 220- 240 volts. Our electrical outlets accept a variety of plugs: USB-A , European 2-pin (C & F), UK square 3-pin (G) and Botswana/South African round 3-pin (M).
You may need to bring a Botswana/South African adaptor if travelling elsewhere in South Africa or Botswana.

A reasonable level of fitness is required for walking / hiking activities, getting in and out of the game vehicle and sitting for long periods. The 'off road' terrain can also be very bumpy, so not advisable for persons with back-pain or other Musculoskeletal conditions.
Our staff are trained in basic First Aid but there are no 24 hour medical facilities in the immediate vicinity. We highly recommend having a comprehensive travel insurance policy, to cover illness, accidents and emergency medical evacuation.

The Tuli Block region of Botswana is a low risk malarial area but please consult your doctor/local travel clinic about malaria prophylactics - especially if visiting other parts of Botswana or neighbouring countries.
Any person entering Botswana from, or transiting via, a yellow fever infected area must be in possession of a valid International Certificate of Vaccination against yellow fever. Otherwise, no other immunisations are required. However, it is advisable to check with your doctor or local travel clinic as they generally recommend a Tdap (tetanus, polio, diphtheria) booster and Hepatitis A vaccine when visiting Africa.
